"Golf is a place I go to get away from everything. I don’t even listen to music while I golf. I go out there to completely disconnect. It brings balance."
Reasons why I golf? Fresh air, hanging out with friends, a good excuse to stop working… balls in holes.
When I was in a stroller my dad used to take me out to the driving range on his breaks from work and I would sit there for hours watching. When I was two he put a club in my hands and it was like I already knew how to swing from watching him repetitively at the range. After that I played a bunch up until high school, I played tournaments with kids my age and was playing pretty much every day of the week and then I burnt out.
In high school I really got into dance music and kinda started producing. That’s when I got really into music. On my 18th birthday I signed a deal with DimMak Records (Steve Aoki’s label) and that’s when I felt like a true professional.
Now that music is a career, I’m looking for distractions, something to do in my off time. Music is 24/7 for me. I’m always producing music. I grew up playing with my dad and my grandpa and it’s those memories that eventually brought me back to golf. Now, once or twice a month I get to sneak out and play golf. It’s my favorite thing to do. Golf is a place I go to get away from everything. I don’t even listen to music while I golf. I go out there to completely disconnect. It brings balance.
It’s cool to see more people out there playing - more diverse groups of people. The more people the better. It’s a fun sport and hopefully more people will get out and play. Golf is morphing and changing with the times. The clothes are getting more comfortable and more lifestyle based. I got my manager hooked on golf now. Since the COVID shutdown he’s been playing all the time because we’re not touring. I have another DJ friend in Vegas, not people you would typically think would be golfers, but he plays six times a week. I was swiping through Instagram one day and saw on his stories he was swinging clubs and I said “what?!? We’ve been friends for like 10 years and I didn’t know this about you. We could have been playing this whole time!
